The Cockatiel Handbook (Barron’s Pet Handbooks) Review If you love to have a book in your hand about a certain subject, then you will probably find The Cockatiel Handbook a great addition to your library, especially if you are lucky enough to own a cockatiel. The Cockatiel Handbook (B.E.S. Pet Handbooks) Cockatiels are one of the smaller members of the parrot family but are very popular as pets. The Cockatiel Handbook offers new cockatiel owners detailed information when it comes to: Buying a bird What your bird needs Caging Nutrition Health Care Bonding With your bird Potty training and more….. This book is just one in the Pet Handbooks Series. They instruct pet owners on all they need to know about their chosen pet. The book is full of high-quality photographs and has 144 pages. About the Author – Mary Gorman Mary Gorman had a chance encounter with a 10-week old cockatiel, and this was all it took to launch her into a new hobby – raising exotic birds. She has written for a wide variety of pet bird magazines and books in both the U.S. and the U.K. She is a former animal caregiver with the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, Mary currently lives in Western Massachusetts with her family, three extremely well-behaved cats, and a small assortment of birds, including the cockatiel who started it all. Pros And Cons The only complaint I have about this book is that it could have been more detailed. It covers all the general information that a new cockatiel owner needs to know but could get a little deeper into certain topics. I would have liked to see more said about the various types of body language a cockatiel displays. Strangely there is also nothing about bathing your cockatiel. My birds love to bathe and I think it is an important part of keeping your cockatiel happy. I also think that annoying behavior such as constant squawking or screaming could be covered in more detail, as this can be very irritating, especially for your neighbors, and there are ways to deal with this. In general, this book is most ideal for the first-time cockatiel owner. The cockatiel handbook will make a great gift for a child who has just received a cockatiel as a pet, as he will learn how to take care of his new charge. This post does contain affiliate links.
